Description
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. This is one of the oldest and most recognised English proficiency tests worldwide. Most Universities and VISA authorities make this either their mandatory or preferred test to judge the candidate’s proficiency in the English Language.
Almost all reputable establishments look at a cumulative grade 6 and above. Some look at a cumulative score and also cut-off scores for each of the 4 modules.
It is always safe to have a cumulative score of 7.0 and above and a module-wise grade of 6 and above. This should make you eligible for most establishments and reduce the chances of application made to Universities getting rejected.
The final test duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes and consists of four modules:
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking

Exam Dates
There are two types of exams for IELTS:
1. On Computer: This exam happens three (03) times a day and seven days a week. However, it is best to check with the local center for the actual availability of slots.
2. On Paper: This happens on 4 fixed dates a month across 82 centers in India..Usually every Thursday and Saturday of the week.

FAQ IELTS: Test Prep
There are two types of IELTS:
1. IELTS Academics: If you're considering pursuing higher education abroad or seeking professional certification, the IELTS Academic test is designed for you. It evaluates your preparedness to study or train in an environment where English is the primary language of communication.
2. IELTS General: The IELTS General Training test assesses your English language skills in everyday, practical situations. It is ideal for those aiming to study at the high school level or enroll in vocational training programs. Additionally, it is a requirement for individuals planning to migrate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the UK.
The total duration of IELTS test is 02 hrs and 45 mins. The break up is as follows:
1. Listening: 30 mins
2. Reading: 60 mins
3. Writing: 60 mins
4. Speaking: 15 mins
The Listening, Reading, and Speaking happen on the same day one after the other without any breaks. The Speaking test may be scheduled on the same day as your other test components or up to a week before or after the test date. You have the option to book your preferred date and time for the Speaking test online. However, if you don't select a time slot within the given period, one will be automatically assigned to you.
Both Academic and General as well as On Computer and on Paper the cost is INR 17,000.00 While all efforts are made to keep the cost updated please check with IDP for the price at the time you are booking the exam.
