Why Germany?

In Germany, there are two major intake seasons summer and fall. Summer has a march/ April start date. Fall intake starts in August/ September.

There are two types of universities in Germany public and private.

1. Public universities are funded by the government, while private universities are subsidized by tuition fees and donations from alumni and businesses.

2. Public universities are cheaper than private. Public universities have higher admission requirements than private universities.

ECTS(Europian transfer credit system ) is the transfer system used by German universities for international students. Usually, around 180- 240 credits are required for a master's. The number varies depending on the university.

Germany Post-Study

Students can apply for a post-study visa which will be valid for 18 months. In this timespan, students can find jobs and convert post-study visas to work permit visas.

Healthcare, Engineering, IT, and Automobiles are major sectors in Germany. Students having relevant backgrounds can have job opportunities in these sectors.

Living in Germany

Approximately 60,000 to 80,000 INR is required monthly for living in Germany.

VISA - Germany

Students can apply for a student visa at the German embassy or consulate or application agencies in your country.

German visa costs 75 Euros (6300 INR) for adults and 37.50 Euro (3200 INR) for minor Indians.

After completion of the study, the student can extend the visa for 18 months to find work.

Spouse, parents, or children can apply for a family reunion visa and stay in Germany with the student, provided that you are married before getting a German student visa.

APS - for VISA and University admissions

The Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) is responsible for checking and assessing the applicant’s Indian academic documents, and the APS certificate received will be proof of their authenticity. It also checks whether you are eligible to apply to German Universities or not. It is important to note that APS certificates are not only mandatory for student visa applications but are also an important requirement for some universities like the Technical University of Munich and the University of Münster. The Academic Evaluation Centre also mentions that holding the APS certificate will make your student visa application smoother and will simplify your application process to German universities. It is important to note again that starting from 1st November 2022; all visa appointments will require the APS certificate.

All students applying to any German University will have to apply for the APS certificate. Any student applying to a German university for their Bachelor’s, Master’s or any other degree will have to submit their documents to the Academic Evaluation Centre. APS will then assess those academic documents checking their authenticity, and will then provide the certificate, which has to be presented with the student visa application.

APS is mandatory for a German VISA. This is also a requirement for some universities. The candidates will have to apply for this certificate before the admission procedure, alongside other requirements like IELTS or TOEFL. Applications for APS commenced on 1st October 2022.

Let us break this into steps.

  1. Register online at the APS website and download the form. Fill out the form, then print it out and sign it.
    (Note: make sure all the information is filled out correctly; otherwise, it will invalidate your form.)
  2. Transfer the APS procedure fee of Rs. 18,000/- to the APS bank account.

  3. Submit the documents required to APS India via courier or post to the address given on their website.

  4. Document assessment and verification will be conducted by the APS, which could take up to 2-3 weeks.
  5. Upon successful verification of the documents, your online profile will be updated, and 5 APS certificates will be sent via courier to the successful students.
    (Note: in case you require more than five certificates to apply to more German universities, extra certificates are available for Rs. 500/- each.)
  6. Successful candidates can apply to any German University and also for the student visa application through the VFS.

  1. Printed and signed application form together with a passport-size photo (not older than six months).
  2. Copy of APS fee transfer receipt.
  3. Copy of Aadhaar card with linked mobile number.
  4. Copy of passport (1st and last page).
  5. Copy of mark sheets and certificates.

  • How Long Is the APS Valid?
    Once the APS certificates are issued for a specific candidate, they are valid indefinitely. If there is a change in the eligibility criteria, the certificates may have to be re-issued. (You can check your eligibility for a German university here.)
  • What Is the Cost for Obtaining the APS Certificate?
    The APS fee is Rs. 18,000/- for five certificates. Every additional certificate, if required, will cost Rs. 500/- each. The certificates will be delivered via post.

  • Are Original Documents Required? Do the Documents Need to Be Notarized?
    No, you only have to send a copy of the documents. However, please do inform your school/university/college that you have submitted your academic documents and that APS may contact them for verification purposes.
    No, the documents submitted to the APS do not have to be notarized.
  • Is There Any Exemption from APS Requirement?
    Students who are pursuing a course for less than 90 days at a German University are exempt from this criterion, i.e., a short-term course. However, any course that exceeds a period of 90 days will fall under the mandatory APS certificate criterion.
    Note: students who are funded by the EU or German scholarship programs do not have to apply for the APS certificates.
  • How Long Will the Process Take?
    The successful students can expect to receive their certificates within 2-3 weeks of submission of documents.
  • Is TestAS Required?
    Candidates who have not yet graduated with an Indian Bachelor’s degree and who are seeking admission to a Bachelor’s program in Germany are required to submit a TestAS score. Candidates who have cleared JEE Main and Advanced are exempted.This is compulsory from the Winter semester of 2023. You can refer to the full checklist for undergraduate students or categories here.

Exams required - Germany

German proficiency exam DSH and English proficiency exams IELTS and TOEFL are mandatory to study in Germany. JEE Advanced and FSP scores are considered for undergraduate programs and for master's GRE and GMAT are required.

 

Students need to give a written application to companies with cover letters and CVs. An application can be done via email, post, or on the career portal of companies website.
