Within rehabilitation psychology, the focus is on restoring the participation of people after physical or mental illnesses (e.g. in psychosomatic, neurological, oncological or geriatric rehabilitation) on a clinical-psychological basis. Furthermore, clinical psychologists accompany people in successful ageing across the lifespan.
Competences are taught that prepare them for psychological work in a clinical context and also enable them to fill management positions.
Career roles:
- Therapeutic work with mentally and physically ill people (e.g. in psychiatric, psychosomatic and rehabilitation clinics)
- Counselling of mentally and physically ill people (e.g. in out-patient care facilities)
- Counselling of and preventive work with children, young people and families (e.g. in counselling facilities)
- Prevention and intervention measures (e.g. at health insurance funds)
- Research activities (e.g. at non-university research institutions)
